Dasavatharam - The Review

Could there be any other movie in the history of Tamil Cinema that had the same amount of "hype and hoopla" that was given to this one. I guess not.
In this review, I'm not going to talk about the story just the characters. Kamal donning 10 roles. Wow...10 roles. But...But..How many are actually needed? Its for you to decide.

Rangaraja Nambi - The guy in the 12th century piece. This part is awesome. The visuals are breathtaking. The song is amazing. But much does this connect with the rest of movie - Zilch. Could not find any relation between this one and the rest of the movie. Or was it just me?

Next comes Avataar Singh. A caricature...who delivers dialogues like "Iva mela Pyaar Irukkudhay" and then sings an awful song.

Next...The Japanese Kung Fu expert, the first time you see him, the make up looks like some poor guy heavily disfigured because of a fire accident.

Next..Kalif Ullah...who appears dumb (or is he supposed to look that way). The character is 7 foot tall...Again..why? No clue.

Next..as the US president..no real reason. It appears that all these characters are skecthed just because Kamal wanted them to be.

Poovaragan - Agreed. Great acting. We all know Kamal's acting is awesome. But the necessity of this character certainly needs questioning.

The Iyengar Paati - Provides some comic relief. Make up sucked but paati was enjoyable.

Mr.Naidu - Was the best of the lot. Mannerisms and dialogue delivery were awesome. Again..provides some much needed comic relief.

Govind - The usual Kamal. Need I say more.

Chris Fletcher - Surprise Package. I expected that he would make a complete mockery of the ex-CIA role. But this was awesome. But you need to accept all his spider-man stunts coz he is ex-CIA. No questions asked.

Frankly, Dasavatharam is not a bad movie by any stretch of imagination. But you just couldn't feel satisfied with what was offered. You expected a lot more. But ended up with great disappointment. How else can you explain the scene where the bullet takes the tumor out in a Kamal movie. For a second, it gave me a feeling I was in a Vijayakanth movie.
Kamal gives a prelude, before the movie begins that all incidents in this world are related. But sadly, the screenplay dint justify. The only saving grace is the climax. The Tsunami, created for a good cause, was really a novel thought. But apart from that the movie falls flat.
No doubt, that the movie will be a great hit. But as a fan, it disappoints.

Dasavatharam - Empty Vessel.

Rating - 5/10.
